The Lens, Not the Subject

JA Westenberg: “Don’t pick a writing niche. Find the one only you can own.” expanded my thinking about the difference between choosing a subject and recognizing a lens. Her framing — obsession, earned insight, unmet need — is valuable on its own, but working through her questions took me somewhere she doesn’t quite go: the realization that the topics I write about are interchangeable, and the way of noticing underneath them is the only part that isn’t.
